Mark Dennehy Brings Three Key Values To Binghamton

Posted: Updated:

Binghamton, N.Y.- On Wednesday morning, New Jersey Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero and Binghamton Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald announced that Mark Dennehy will be the head coach of the Binghamton Devils.

Earlier today former Merrimack hockey coach Mark Dennehy and Tom Fitzgerald spoke to the media on a conference call to express their excitement with the hiring of Dennehy. Fitzgerald and Dennehy have had a strong relationship with each other for over thirty-years.

"I was looking for someone with head coaching experience, I thought that was important, especially with the young group of guys, someone who's gonna teach and obviously someone who can sit up and motivate and inspire the group and those are the three things i wanted and marked checked off of all those boxes" said Fitzgerald.

The rebuilding process for the New Jersey Devils organization started when Ray Shero and Tom Fitzgerald came to New Jersey in 2015. The results were viewed as moving quicker than most people would have expected when the Devils clinched a playoff berth last season for the first time since 2012.

With that being said, Dennehy isn't expected to change or instill a culture that they've already built, but, to simply add to the identity and recent success.

Three Values we can expect Dennehy to share with his team are communication, trust and accountability.

"Number one is communication, I need to make sure that I understand the lingo of the New Jersey Devils and how they want to play. Number 2, I got to earn their trust, they need to believe that the information I'm giving them is going to help them achieve goals and help them be the best they can be. Lastly, I need to hold them accountable to a certain extent, I believe leadership is getting them to do sometimes what they don't want to do in order to get them to achieve what they want to achieve" Said Dennehy.

Last season the Binghamton Devils finished the season with a 25-38-13 record.

Their will be an announcement later in the month to when Mark Dennehy will have his introductory press conference.
