Ponies Bats Struggle To Find Power Against PortlandPosted: Updated:
Binghamton, N.Y. - Portland Sea Dog's starting pitcher Mike Shawaryn allowed one run over six innings, leading Portland to a 201 series-ending win Wednesday afternoon at NYSEG stadium. Binghamton's starter Scott Copeland threw seven strike-outs and gave up two runs on four hits throughout seven innings. Unfortunately, just enough for Portland to seal the deal.
Portland's Jon Nunez singled in Jordan Betts in the fourth winning, to give what would be the game-winning hit.
Matt Blackham and Joe Zanghi combined for two scoreless innings out of the Rumble Ponies bullpen.
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies for 1-for-8 in scoring position and are 2-for-18 on the last three games. After the game manager Luis Rojas spoke about how as of late, they've been focusing on improving their pitching and now they really need to hone in on their offense.
"I think we're getting a little to anxious outside of the strike zone and chasing pitches and getting ourselves in trouble" stated Rojas.
"We need to have a meeting, getting the guys together and talk about the fundamentals of hitting and situational hitting and how to slow things down and not go outside the approach that has taken you this far in baseball."
