Two Arrested for Assaulting Child in NorwichPosted: Updated:
After a child arrived at the Chenango Memorial Hospital with contusions to their face and head Sunday morning, the Norwich Police Department and Chenango County Child Protective Services (CPS) launched a joint investigation into the cause of the injuries.
According to Norwich Police, officers alleged Marraine L. Ray, 31 of Norwich, and Scott J. Ray, 36 of Norwich, recklessly caused serious injuries to the young victim by striking the child in the head, repeatedly with a plastic brush.
Police claimed Scott Ray struck the juvenile in the head, then grabbed the victim by the hair and threw the child into a wall.
Scott and Marriane were arrested later Sunday morning. They both face charges of felony Assault in the 2nd degree, and misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The child is still under medical observations, according to Norwich Police Chief Rodney Marsh, and is being monitored for a brain bleed.
Scott and Marriane were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 cash bail, each.
