Two Wounded in Town of Richford Shooting

Posted: Updated:
TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -

Tioga County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating an early morning shooting that wounded two people in the Town of Richford on Thursday.

The incident took place on 48 Light Road, where investigators believe a party was going.

According to the department's Facebook page, officers responded to  Light Road at 1:23 a.m. for a report of one person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officials say a further investigation revealed the shooting involved two people and both had left the scene before deputies arrived.

Fox 40 spoke with neighbors who said they saw dozens of cars driving to and from the residence between 10 p.m Wednesday to 1:30 a.m. Thursday, when police responded to the scene. Neighbors also heard continuous fireworks going off from the direction of the home.

With a search warrant, Tioga County investigators were in the home Thursday searching for evidence that would tell them what lead to the incident.

Investigators told Fox 40 that they believe the resident next door at 46 Light Road owns the property where the shooting took place and rents the home out as a vacation rental. Detectives are now looking into who hosted the party or who was renting the house at the time of the party.

According to Tioga County Investigator Cliff Alexander, one victim was taken to Cayuga Medical Center and the other to Robert Packer Hospital. He said he does not know the status of their conditions.

Police are treating this as an isolated incident and say the two individuals knew one another.

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at (607) 687-1010.
