Mobile Mammogram Van Makes It Easy For Women To Get Screened

Posted: Updated:

Breast cancer is the most invasive cancer in women, but early screenings can better your chance of recovery.

Lourdes Hospital is making it easy for women ages 35 and up in the Southern Tier to get screened.

Lourdes' Motion Mobile Mammography Van was at Owego Elementary School Wednesday offering screening services to women.

“We’re really working on reaching out to the community, so able to get out to schools, factories, festivals, fairs, that kind of thing to really show them we can really go anywhere," said Melissa Toal, Community Outreach Coordinator.

The Motion Mobile Mammography van provides education, outreach, and women's screening services in Broome, Tioga, Delaware, and Chenango counties.

Women 35 and older can simply make an appointment by calling Lourdes Central Scheduling at 607-798-5723. The van also welcomes walk-in's.

Not having health insurance is a real concern for many women, but Toal says to not worry.

"If you don’t have insurance, we work with cancer services and cancer services will help you find the appropriate insurance and the appropriate coverage for your screening and within New York State it is free for your screening," said Toal.

The Motion Mobile Mammography Van runs six days a week. It's next stop is this Friday at Newark Valley School in Tioga County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
