Ponies' Star Wars Night, Not the Night they were Looking ForPosted: Updated:
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies had their three-game winning streak snapped on Sunday evening by the Bowie Baysox, 7-0, at NYSEG Stadium. Baysox starter Keegan Aiken twirled a seven-inning gem, allowing just two hits and one walk for his fifth win of the season.
For the third straight night, Bowie tallied the first run, doing so off of Rumble Ponies starter Christian James. On Sunday, the first three Baysox batters reached to load the bases with no outs. After James struck out Ryan Mountcastle, he induced an Ademar Rifaela run-scoring groundout, putting Bowie in front 1-0. James, in his Double-a debut, would limit the first-inning threat to just the lone tally.
James (0-1) didn’t allow another run in his first appearance of the 2018 season. The 20-year old lasted four innings, facing just one over the minimum after the first inning. He struck out four Baysox and walked one.
Akin (5-4), meanwhile, cruised through the Rumble Ponies lineup in his seven strong frames. He collected four 1-2-3 innings, struck out 10, and at one point whiffed five consecutive Ponies batters. A Jhoan Urena second-inning single and Levi Michael sixth-inning double were Akin’s only blemishes, as he faced two over the minimum.
Adonis Uceta was first to relive James, coughing up a pair of runs (one earned) in the fifth inning. In his first appearance in a week, the right-hander nearly escaped the inning unharmed, but was doomed by Jeff McNeil’s throwing error. With one out and runners on the corners, McNeil collected Corban Joseph’s groundball, but threw wide to second base, allowing two to score.
Bowie punctuated its shutout win by amassing four straight ninth-inning doubles against Corey Taylor. The three-run frame capped the scoring for the night at 7-0.
Binghamton (25-23) concludes their four-game series with Bowie on Monday afternoon. RHP Marcos Molina gets the ball for the Rumble Ponies against Baysox RHP Jason Aquino with first pitch at NYSEG Stadium scheduled for 2:05 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 1:50 PMand can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
