BU Women's Basketball Head Coach Linda Cimino Departs After Historic SeasonPosted: Updated:
This morning Binghamton University announced that Women's basketball head coach Linda Cimino will be parting ways from Binghamton as she has accepted the head coach position at St. Francis College in Brooklyn.
The sudden news came as a surprise considering she coached the Bearcats to a historic year this past season after going 20-12 and earning the first-ever Division I National post-season berth. The fact that Cimino also signed a contract extension back in April to coach until 2022-2023 makes the timing of this all even more strange. However, she is adamant about her reason and the fact that it hits close to home. "It's not about wins and losses at this point it's about fulfilling some personal needs for me and I'm really looking forward to heading back to the city and being closer to my family and friends." Said Coach Cimino
Cimino expressed that it wasn't an easy decision leaving Binghamton but as she has dealt with personal tragedies this year, she's realized how short life can be and be feels that she needs to be closer to her family and friends.
"This wasn't an easy decision I went back and fourth and I had some doubts and some second thoughts as anybody would in this situation." Said Cimino.
Binghamton will immediately begin a search for someone to fill Linda's shoes.
"If you leave a place better than you found it that's success and Linda has done that." Said Director of Athletics Patt Elliot.
Elliot also went on to say that his "phone has been blowing up since about 5 after 12:00 p.m. and I would imagine it's going to continue to do so."
