The State University Of New York Release 2017-18 Scholar Athlete Awards

A press release was sent out announcing the 84 recipients of the 2017-18 Scholar Athlete Award.

SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson stated, "Whether competing at a Division I or intramural level, all of those honored today are committed to excellence in their athletic pursuits, sportsmanship, and personal development. They balance a challenging workload, while demonstrating leadership and service.”

Each individuals campus athletic director nominated the student athletes and their academic and athletic achievements were reviewed by a panel of athletic directors of SUNY system and members of the SUNY provost's office.

Three athletes from Binghamton University made an appearance on the list, including softball player Jessica Rutherford, baseball catcher Jason Agresti and Soccer goalie Katie Hatziyianis.

Jessica Rutherford:

  •  Concluded her season with a .432 batting average, the sixth-highest mark in Binghamton program history. 
  • Final career batting average of .391 broke the all-time mark of .379.
  • The programs all-time hitter; totaling 235 hits.

Jason Agresti:

  • Captured three America East Titles at Binghamton University
  • Three time All-Conference selection
  • Jake Pitler Award Winner
