Horseheads Win STAC TitlePosted: Updated:
The Sabres of Susquehanna valley took on the Blue Raider Horseheads for the STAC championship title and to say it was a long game would be an understatement. Today's game was a pitching duel to say the least. Both SV's pitcher Sophia Pappas and Horseheads pitcher Madison Rogers combined for a total of 24 strike-outs throughout 10 innings.
Pappas threw 17 strike-outs, let up zero walks and only allowed five hits. On the other side, Rogers wasn't too far behind as she threw seven strike-outs and let up six hits, both pitchers fueled their teams defense forcing the game to go all the way to ten innings.
It was shortstop Kendal Cook who sealed the deal for the Blue Raiders as she hit a 2 run double deep into left field in the top of the tenth putting the Horseheads at a 3-2 lead where they would stay. SV's Emily Demoney hit a fly ball to center field and it was Lacey O'Donnel with the catch that shut the door on the Sabres.
Horseheads head coach Megan Zoerb was extremely proud of her team's resiliency and hard work throughout the game. "The girls just kept plugging away.. they knew it wasn't going to be just one swing of the bat that was going to win it, so they were mentally tough and they worked really hard for this." Said Zoerb.
