BU President Sends Off Graduates With Champagne Toast

Posted: Updated:

Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger kicked off commencement celebrations Wednesday afternoon with a champagne toast to the 2018 graduates.

“This is the first time in Binghamton University’s history that we’ve had the champagne toast on the peace quad,” said Stenger.

Unlike previous years, Wednesday’s farewell party took place outdoors in front of the Peace Quad, where students were treated with champagne, food, and music.

“Today’s event used to be inside. It was a brunch. It was kind of quiet and it wasn’t that much fun, so I said this year, let’s have a picnic. Let’s bring everybody out on the Peace Quad, let’s bring some of the local vendors in to provide food, and we’ll have a champagne toast,” said Stenger.

As the 2018 graduates embark on a new chapter in their lives, President Stenger wants them to remember one thing.

“Always follow your dreams without hesitation because as soon as you give up and say ‘okay I’ll do that because I need a paycheck or I need to follow the path that’s more conventional’ you start to lose and life is long,” said Stenger.

Binghamton University commencement ceremonies will take place from May 18 to May 20.
