For 9 weeks, the Southern Tier Athletic Conference (STAC) high school baseball league featured defending champion Vestal start off the season hot as ever, but find themselves backed down by teams like Seton Catholic, Union-Endicott (U-E), and Corning-Painted Post (C-PP).
Monday, the top three teams of STAC baseball (Seton, U-E and Corning) competed for a shot at the title in the STAC Finals at Union-Endicott High School.
First on the docket, the Union-Endicott Tigers hosted the Seton Catholic Saints in the semi-final round, both eager to face the Corning Hawks in the Finals. It was a pitching duel between Seton's Mason Vaughan and U-E's Anthony Van Fossen, from start to finish. But the Tigers would score a single run in the 6th inning to earn the only run in the entire game. Union Endicott defeated Seton Catholic in the Semi-Final round, 1-0.
And in the night's finale, things would turn out differently for Tigers. Squaring off against the C-PP Hawks, U-E found themselves in a 3-0 hole early on. It wasn't until late in the game that the Tigers would break the goose egg on the scoreboard and score 4 runs, but the Hawks would answer back with three more runs.
Corning-Painted Post defeated Union Endicott, 6-4, and claimed the 2018 STAC Baseball Final.
