BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -

Senator Fred Akshar turned down an offer, to run for the Lieutenant Governor... in this year's race for Governor of New York State.

He was approached by Dutchess County Executive, Marc Molinaro.

On Monday Akshar released a statement saying he is proud of the work he has already accomplished-- from working to fight the heroin epidemic, and to make New York more affordable.

I first ran for State Senate nearly 3 years go because it was an opportunity to continue the work that I started in my 15 years as a member of law enforcement to improve the lives of families across our community. I'm proud of the work we've been able to accomplish in Albany to improve the business climate, fight the heroin epidemic and make New York more affordable for all its residents, but there's still much work to do. I believe I can do the most good for the people of the 52nd Senate District by ensuring they have a strong and energetic voice representing them as part of the Senate Republican Majority. — Akshar

However, Akshar said there is still more work to be done, he believes he can accomplish that-- and do the best for the people of the 52nd district.. representing them in the Senate.
