ATV Crash: Two Injured in Delaware County

Posted: Updated:

At approximately 8:50 p.m. on Saturday night members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and the Delhi Volunteer Fire Department Emergency Squad responded to a serious personal injury ATV accident on Buzzy Lane in the Town of Hamden.

Investigation revealed that the driver of the ATV, 30 year old Michael R. Armstrong, of Roxbury was traveling on Buzzy Lane when he lost control of the ATV on a curve in the roadway, struck a tree and sustained serious head injuries.  A female passenger on that ATV, 28 year old Laura J. Armstrong was ejected from the ATV as a result of the collision.

Both subjects were transported to O’Connor Hospital by members of the Delhi Emergency Squad.  Michael Armstrong was later transferred to Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, where he remains in critical condition.  Laura Armstrong was treated at O’Connor Hospital and released.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a secondary ATV accident occurred when another ATV, being driven behind the Armstrong ATV by 27 year old Corey Hochbrueckner, of Oneonta, struck Armstrong’s ATV after that ATV struck the tree and ejected the Armstrong couple. Neither Hochbrueckner, nor his passenger 33 year old Ashley M. Joslin of Hamden, were injured as a result of that collision.

Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the New York State Police, Troop “C”, Collision Reconstruction Unit.  Although this investigation remains on-going, Deputies believe alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident.  Mr. Armstrong’s was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Deputies anticipate charges will be filed at the conclusion of this investigation.
