Car Crash Snaps Utility Pole In HalfPosted: Updated:
A few Endwell residents were left without power early Wednesday night after a two-vehicle crash severed a utility pole in half.
Police and firefighters responded to the intersection of Smith Drive and Byford Blvd in Endwell shortly after 5:30 p.m.
According to officers, a gray Saab sedan was heading east on Smith Drive when it t-boned a Schwan's Food Company truck heading north on Byford Blvd after failing to stop at a stop sign.
The truck attempted to avoid the Saab but was unsuccessful, and smashed into a utility pole, severing it in half and causing the upper half of the pole to dangle by wires.
Police closed off the intersection as NYSEG worked to fix the down wires and replace the fallen pole.
According to NYSEG, they expected the repairs to take roughly four to five hours.
No injuries were reported.
