Rayn Gibson Fuels Bearcats Defense In Victory Over MainePosted: Updated:
Today Binghamton University hosted the America East Tournament at Bearcats Sports Complex for the third year in a row. The Bearcats kicked off their weekend with a 3-1 victory over the University of Maine today.
It was an overall team win starting with pitcher Rayn Gibson and ending with senior outfielder Carrie Maniccia who ended the game with a phenomenal grab in left field, her second on the day. Bearcats defense produced no errors throughout the 7 innings and freshman Lauren Martinez came up big for BU in the top of the 6th inning. In Martinez's first appearance in the America East Tournament she launched a shot into left field for the solo home-run to put the Bearcats at a 3-0 lead over the Bearcats, her second home-run of the season.
Head Coach Michelle Johnston was pleased with the overall team effort. "I was really pleased with how Rayn was responding on the mound... I felt like she was really trusting her pitches today and we obviously came up with some really good plays behind her defensively and we feel really good about this start" Said Johnston.
Pitcher Rayn Gibson left today with a complete game victory over Maine and was also pleased with the teams performance."We just did such a good job, we couldn't have done better as a team, it was just amazing." Said Gibson
The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow at Bearcats Sports Complex at 11 a.m. and will be taking on the University of Albany in the semi-finals of the America East Tournament.
