BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -

The American Red Cross is honoring heroic acts by community members in the Southern Tier Thursday morning.

At the annual Real Heroes Breakfast, the Red Cross will recognize the efforts of twenty individuals. These heroes range from highway department workers to state troopers.

The keynote speaker for this year's event is Winnie Remoril, an American Red Cross International Disaster Response Volunteer. Remoril has traveled around the world, responding to hurricanes, earthquakes, and other disasters.

"We have a saying in the Red Cross, 'If you've seen one disaster, you've seen one disaster,'" says Remoril, "Every disaster is unique and it's unique for those families and it's unique for the people that respond and step up and help."

Fox 40's Bryanna Gallagher will be Master of Ceremonies for the event. We'll bring you the stories of these real heroes Thursday night.
