Plans For Replacing Food Service Provider At Nursing Home Move Forward

Posted: Updated:
BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -

Broome County is moving ahead with plans to terminate a contract with food provider Aramark. The company provides services for Willow Point Nursing Home, Meals On Wheels, and the Broome County Jail.

In February, the county announced its dissatisfaction with Aramark and its intent to severe a contract that it has with the company through 2020. Willow Point nursing home staff said the food service is "unacceptable" with residents being fed late and cold meals, sometimes with items missing from trays.

On Thursday, county legislators got an update from administrators on the status of the RFP which was put out earlier this year.

Deputy County Executive Kevin McManus tells Fox 40 that there has been interest in the RFP and the county will start going through responses when the RFP closes later this month. Officials say the RFP is very specific in its requirements for the service provider its seeking. Interested companies must prove they have both the experience and a good track record.

McManus also says Aramark is being diplomatic in the situation and the county expects the contract will be terminated within the next 12 to 18 months.

Aramark has sent in a proposal in response to that RFP.
