BU Students Are Giving Away Thousands of Dollars to Non Profit OrganizationsPosted: Updated:
The Binghamton University Philanthropy Incubator Program announced it's annual grant recipients. Students in the philanthropy and social sciences programs were divided up into groups and asked to choose to four nonprofit organizations in Broome County that they wanted to fund.
"We divided up into teams and we identified issue areas within the county, and once we identified the issue areas, we then looked into non for profits in Broome County that addressed those issue areas." says Andrea Ross, junior at Binghamton University
The students awarded the funds to:
- Y-W-C-A - $5,000
- Mental Health Association - $7,500
- Rise New York - $2,000
- Brackett Refugee Education Fund - $500
The Philanthropy Program is funded by the Learning by Giving Foundation and the student-led fundraising event "Party with a Purpose". This year, the students were able to give away a total of $15,500, the largest contribution to date. Over the last 10 years, the Philanthropy Incubator has awarded over $150,000 to numerous nonprofit organizations.
