BU Women's Lacrosse Falls Short To Cornell University

Posted: Updated:

The Binghamton University Women's Lacrosse team hosted Cornell University today. They entered today's game with an overall record of 6-7 and a conference record of 3-2, which is the best conference start in school history.

The Lady Bearcats have not defeated Cornell since 2012 putting them at a losing record of 0-6 when it comes to facing the Red Bears and unfortunately today, they left 0-7. Binghamton fell 15-7 to Cornell University this afternoon and now move to 6-8 overall on the season.

The first twelve minutes of the game were extremely close as Cornell and Binghamton went 5-4 for goals.

Bri Arthur put the Bearcats on the board with a free-position shot and went on to score their second goal of the game as they trailed Cornell 3-2. Jacqueline Kennedy made almost the exact play she made a few weeks ago as she intercepted Cornell's pass and ran down field, but this time handing the ball of to teammate Bri Arthur. Kennedy also went on to score a goal of her own and tied the score for the first and only time of the game.

Heading into halftime the Bearcats trailed 7-4 and had to patiently wait through a snow delay to start the game back up again. Binghamton and Cornell each scored a pair of goals in the beginning of the second half. With 16:40 left in the game, Bri Arthur turned her two goals into a hat trick by scoring her third and final goal of the game. Unfortunately the Red Bears responded as well and closed out the second half with six goals. Cornell defeated Binghamton 15-7.

According to Binghamton University, head coach Stephanie Allen stated, "We needed to be better at the little things today and we let that get away from us,"  "I thought we responded well in the second half in some areas of play but failed to capitalize offensively in the manner we needed. We will look forward to getting back after it and regrouping as we head into another conference match up this weekend."

The Lady Bearcats are back in action at UMass Lowell this Saturday, April 21st for an America East conference match up.
