Suspect Caught For String Of Thefts

Donald R. Fike is in the custody of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.

Fike was arrested on Thursday April 12th around 10:00pm by NYSP in the town of Corning and was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree. He was found driving the Nissan Xterra with the stolen Florida license plate highlighted in our Press Release and is currently being held in the Steuben County Jail.

Fike is currently wanted in the state of Arizona as a parole violator and is also wanted in Oklahoma for Theft of Property.

He is associated with addresses in Lakeland, Fla. and Mesa, Az. and once lived in Binghamton. Additional charges are expected to be filed by the Vestal Police, Broome County Sheriff’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police.

Four police agencies are all looking to identify the suspect and a car in a string of thefts.

According to a release by the Vestal Police Department, all of the incidents have occurred in April. 

The first incident on April 3, the Taylor County Sheriff's received information of a Florida license plate (BVFL48) had been stolen off of a vehicle parked overnight at the Hampton Inn in Perry, Florida.

On April 9, PA State Police at Carlisle was informed that a male suspect stole a car behind the Walnut Bottom Diner in Carlisle, PA. Police said the incident was caught on camera and it showed the suspect checking several cars before finding one with a set of keys inside. Then police said several minutes later he walked back to get the Xterra with the stolen Florida license plate. 

On April 10, the Vestal Police received information of a smashed window and theft from a car around 5:00 p.m., and it was caught on video. Police said the male subject checked the doors of every car in the parking lot of the Skylar Diner before smashing one window. Police said the suspect and the car are the same from the incident in Carlisle PA. 

On April 10, Broome County Sheriff's get a call for a grand larceny at the Sunoco Gas Station on 704 Old Front St. Police said this incident occurred two hours after the incident at the Skylar Diner. This incident was caught on video and it shows the suspect going being the counter of the gas station and stealing the employee's purse. 

On April 12, the Vestal Police are informed by Skylark Diner that the suspect has returned and was sitting in someone's car. Police said he was confronted but fled before the police arrived. Officials said he was in the same clothes and was driving the same car with a Florida license plate on it. 

The Vestal Police Department, Broome County Sheriff's, Pennsylvania State Police at Carlisle, and the Taylor County Florida Sheriff's Office are all investigating.
