Akron Shuts Down BinghamtonPosted: Updated:
The Akron Rubber Ducks completed the three-game series by pitching a shut-out game tonight here at NYSEG stadium. It was Rubber Ducks starting pitcher Aaron Civale who made it very difficult for the Rumble Ponies to make any sort of run tonight, as he gave up only three hits and shut the Ponies out throughout the six innings he pitched.
Rumble Pony Daniel Zamora made his first professional start tonight where he let up four runs in the 2 innings he pitched. Relief Pitchers Drew Smith, Tyler Bashlor and Adonis Uceta threw seven hitless innings and combined for eight strike outs.
Also, side note, Tim Tebow got a piece of the ball in his first at bat tonight, with a single, but unfortunately he didn't have as much luck after that, but neither did any of the Rumble Ponies, combining for only 3 hits throughout the game.
Manager Luis Rojas expressed his thoughts on the series against Akron. "The Rubber Ducks did a really good job in the series, their three starters threw the ball really well, all quality starts for them and they kept the ball down, made good pitches, and we're getting to know our opponents now early in the season and that's going to be a team that we're going to see a couple more times down the road and now we know what we're up against and what kind of pitching they had."
Did Drew Gagnon and Tomas Nido's being transferred to higher affiliates effect this series? Rojas stated, "It effected us a little bit, since yesterday we were extending the build a little bit with our starters and trying not to use our bullpen too much... it effected us a little bit, but we have to extend the build for us to get through nine innings."
The Ponies fell 4-0 to the Akron Rubber Ducks and complete the three-game sweep. The Ponies are now 3-3 as they get ready for their seven-game stretch that begins Friday against Portland at Hadlock Field.
