Thousands Attend 48th Annual Maple Festival

Posted: Updated:
Marathon NY -

Roughly 10,000 people attended the Central New York Maple Festival this weekend. For two days, guests enjoyed a pancake eating contest, a pageant, museum tours, and a tree planting ceremony.

Paige Parker, chair of the Maple Festival Committee, said the event is organized throughout the year with the help of the entire town of Marathon.

"This is the biggest thing we do in Marathon. We come together for two days and then after the two days we come together once a month for a meeting to help organize again." - Paige Parker, Maple Festival Committee

Over 100 vendors sold specialty foods, maple products, and fur pelts. Marathon middle and high school students served up pancake breakfasts. Volunteers organized live entertainment and facilitated traffic. Parker, whose grandfather was one of the founders of the festival, says she is trying to continue his legacy.

"It's about carrying on the tradition. It's a good feeling to know that you've done all this planning and that so many people come out and see it and really enjoy the weekend." - Paige Parker, Maple Festival Committee
