Broome County Land Bank Unveils Two Newly Renovated Homes

Posted: Updated:
BROOME COUNTY, NY -

The Broome County Land Bank unveiled two newly renovated homes Wednesday afternoon that were once vacant, blighted properties and are now affordable housing opportunities.

The homes are located at 117 Lagrange Street in the Town of Vestal and 1857 Burdick Road in the Town of Binghamton.

They were renovated over several months thanks to New York State Community Development Block Grant funds.

The tax foreclosed homes were vacant for at least four years, and the Land Bank says they’re happy they were able to be saved after being neglected for so long.

“These are going to be affordable housing opportunities for the community. They’ll be available for sale through the Broome County Home Ownership program. These houses are perfect for first-time homebuyers, new couples just starting out, or maybe a family who is looking to upgrade from an apartment to a house.” - Margaret Scarinzi, Executive Director of Broome County Land Bank

One condition of purchasing one of the homes is that you must make it your permanent residence for at least five years.

"I don't like empty lots, I like houses." - John Schaffer, Vestal Town Supervisor

Anyone interested in purchasing is encouraged to contact Mike Rizzo from Century 21/Barra & Wells at 607-724-5020.
