Over Two Million in Federal Funding For Broome County Transit

Posted: Updated:
BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -

On Tuesday U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and U.S Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $2,040,000 in federal funding for the Broome County Department of Public Transportation.

Officials said this funding will help Broome County Transit by purchasing new hybrid-electric buses, the new buses will replace the old models that run on diesel. The new hybrid buses will reduce emissions and maintenance expenses, and officials said this will make BC Transit more reliable and efficient.

Senator Gillibrand said these federal funds will help BC transit with new, cleaner-running public buses.

“This is a major investment for Broome Country that will help strengthen our transportation infrastructure, making service more efficient for commuters while reducing air pollution," said Gillibrand.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said this is an important investment in Broome County because so many residents in Broome rely on BC Transit.

"This investment in BC Transit will not only benefit our residents but improve our ridership and boost our economy," said Garnar.

The funding was made available through the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
