It's Homemade: AgZeit

MAINE-ENDWELL, N.Y. -

We're taking you inside the indoor farm, AgZeit in this weeks It's Homemade. The indoor farm produces organically grown, high quality produces for local growers. They are kind of a big 'dill'.

“Were establishing quite the base, ‘growing’ each week," said The General Manager and CEO, of AgZeit, Jim Dutcher. AgZeit is an indoor farm startup, at the Linnaeus West Tiger Ventures Innovation High School.

They grow fresh, local, organic, healthy foods for people in the community to buy. Dutcher was previously a mentor at the school experimenting with indoor growing-- but he wanted to take it to the next level and get students involved.

“Our vision what we want to do here… is to literally reboot opportunity and provide high tech high paying long-term careers for our community and especially the students that come out of this high school," said Dutcher.

The indoor farm first planted its seeds, in fall of 2017 and has been growing ever since. He said they have a number of set customers that purchase from them on a regular basis, small local grocers, restaurants, and individuals too. One hot item right now he said is Arugula.

“Leafy greens for sure, we offer a variety of salad mixes, our kale is also very popular," said Dutcher. They also grow herbs too, from Mint to Parsley, Basil, Rosemary, Dill, and Cilantro.

All the growing is done right in the classroom, Dutcher said they have the opportunity to generate several thousand per week, and he hopes to keep expanding throughout the Southern Tier.

You can find produce from AgZeit at the Broome County Farmers Market, and the Taste NY Store. You can also visit their Facebook page or website to contact them and place an order.
