Downtown Binghamton a Buzz with Basketball Finals

It was the final day of New York State Public High School Athletics Association (NYSPHSAA), Sunday, and downtown Binghamton was a buzz with hundreds of basketball fans flooding the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Wrapping up the NY State playoffs, Section XI's Amityville Memorial Warriors and Section I's Ardsley Panthers faced off for the Class A Championship, while Section XI's Half Hollow Hills East Thunderbirds took on Section III's undefeated Liverpool Warriors for the Class AA Championship.

Here are your State Finals:

Boy's Class AA State Championship

  • Liverpool - 71  def.  Half Hollow Hills East - 65  Final

The Warriors will travel to Glens Falls, Friday, to play in the Federations Champions semi-final bracket against South Shore.

Boy's Class A State Championship

  • Amityville Memorial - 74  def.  Ardsley - 54  Final

The Amityville Warriors will travel to Glens Falls, Friday, to play Park High School, Catholic High School Athletic Association's champion, in the Federations Champions semi-final bracket.

Noteworthy statistics:

Liverpool improves to 26-0 on the 2017-18 season.

Amityville's win over Ardsley is their first championship in 15 years. The Warriors currently have 9 seniors on their roster.

Warrior's Josh Serrano caught fire on the court, scoring 29 points to lead his team.

Ardsley's Zeke Blauner led his team in points with 19.

Liverpool trailed Half Hollows Hills East 30-37 at halftime, but were able to overcome the Thunderbirds thanks in part to Charles Pride's 18 points and Noah Issakainen's 17 total points.
