Health Information Fair Promotes Community AwarenessPosted: Updated:
The Broome County Medical Society hosted their Health Information Fair at the Oakdale Mall Saturday.
Twenty-seven healthcare facilities provided critical information and resources for shoppers in the center of the mall.
The Red Cross, United Health Services, and Mothers & Babies Perinatal Network discussed topics such as Alzheimer’s Disease, child care, and weight loss.
Professionals cooked nutritious recipes, measured blood pressure, and gave health assessments.
Dr. Walid Hammoud, former surgeon and member of the Broome County Medical Society, said the fair is important for locals who may not have access to these resources.
“A lot of people are unaware of what we can offer in this area and that’s what we’re doing here. If you don’t know how to lose weight, if you have aches and pains, if you have a problem with alcohol or addiction, the different exhibitors will help you address that, whether it’s for you or for your family."
The forum has grown exponentially, gaining an additional eight organizations since last year.
The Broome County Medical Society encourages community members to educate themselves through events like these.
“We have a lot of problems, from flu to drug addiction,” said Hammoud. “And this community, our community, the Broome County Medical Society are responsible to make everybody aware of this problem, how to address it, and how to access for a cure and treatment.”
