Senator Gillibrand Says She Will "Be Supportive" Of Trump's North Korean Visit

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says she hopes a meeting between the U.S. and North Korea is a step in the right direction. While she was in town for a separate announcement, Gillibrand addressed the potential upcoming meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un.

"I think that it is a positive step in the right direction because we're talking about engagement of diplomacy and political solutions as opposed to military ones. And whether the president will stay the course in these negotiations, I don't know, but I will be supportive and hopeful that he is trying to find a political or a diplomatic solution," says Gillibrand.

The meeting would be the first between a North Korean leader and any sitting U.S. President.
