BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

Chief of Binghamton Police, Joseph Zikuski requested that the 2018 Police Budget be amended to temporarily add three new police officers Monday night at a Binghamton City Council Work Session.

With two officers retiring in May and one leaving for a separate agency, Zikuski asked for funds to be moved within the budget without increasing the overall budget in order to cover for the lost positions. Students of the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy will be trained in the meantime.

Students of the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy begin training on April 2nd and are expected to be fully trained by early January.

These fund changes are effective March 19.
