March Named Red Cross Month In Broome And Binghamton

Posted: Updated:

Local leaders are taking a moment to thank the Red Cross for their work in the community. Both the City of Binghamton and Broome County have named March Red Cross month in recognition of the organization's responses to natural disasters and other emergencies.

Just over the weekend, the Southern Tier chapter of the American Red Cross established shelters for residents without power from the snow storm.

"We have a great team of disaster response volunteers and I can tell you that this effort was led by our Disaster Program Manager Melanie and a number of volunteers who performed many leadership functions as well as functions out in the field," says Colleen McCabe, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of the Southern Tier.

The Southern Tier chapter also responds to disasters around the world. McCabe says more than 30 local volunteers deployed to locations devastated by hurricanes this year.
