CONKLIN, N.Y. -

After seeing their season end at the hands of the Seton Catholic Central Saints each of the last two years following their 2015 State Title, the Susquehanna Valley Sabers got some revenge Thursday night beating their bitter rivals 67-51.  The defeat snapped the Saints 29 game win streak dating back to last December when they lost to, you guessed it, SV.

The Saints entered play ranked 6th in the State in Class A.  SV began the night ranked 2nd in Class B.

Maeve Donnelly won the opening tip for the Sabers but a turnover in the lane set up a Hanna Strawn give-and-go with Julia Hauer.  Strawn's lay-up giving the Saints a 2-0 lead.  It was their first and last lead of the night.  The Sabers tied it up on a Trinasia Kennedy floater from the foul line and took the lead on an Alexis Drake fast break lay-in.  The Sabers extended the lead to five points after the first and seven at the half before increasing that to as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Kennedy led all scorers with 17 points.  Holly Manchester scored 13 of her 15 points in the first quarter, including three 3-pointers.  Drake added 14 points for the victors.

The Saints were led by Ava McCann's 14 points.  McCann successful just once from beyond the arc, but 5-6 from the charity stripe.  Hauer added 13 points, all from the floor.  Strawn finished with 12 points, six coming from the free throw line.

The Sabers and the Saints are the last two Section IV Teams to win State Titles in Class B.  SV taking top honors in 2015 and the Saints in 2017, en route to a Federation Championship.  The two have met in the Section Finals each of the last two years.
