Community members met with the City Council, Monday, for a public hearing regarding the housing and non-housing development needs for the fiscal year. A necessary step to finalizing a budget for Binghamton's future.
Members of the council discussed city grants including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home investment Partnership (HOME) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG). Funds the City of Binghamton receives annually.
Tonight's hearing was a chance for the community to recommend budget spending on the destruction and removal of blight housing surrounding the city.
Binghamton residents also discussed the allocation of spending for emergency housing and emergency services like the Family Enrichment Network and the YWCA are directly affected by the city's funding.
Another topic discussed at tonight's hearing was the budget for the transportation services of seniors provided by Catholic Charities, which provides means for elderly citizens to be transported to and from their homes.
