CONKLIN, N.Y. -

The Susquehanna Valley School's community is mourning the loss of Connor Brown, the 7-year-old boy who died after being trapped under the ice of the Susquehanna River outside his Stillwater Road home Sunday.

This young man had a lot of friends, teachers and staff that cared a great deal about him and his loss is going to be felt very deeply in our buildings. -- Roland Doig, Superintendent of Schools.

According to SV spokesman Jim Hull, who released a statement to members of the media Monday, Connor Brown was a second grader at Francis P. Donnelly Elementary School.

Our hearts are broken for the Brown family and their many friends throughout our district and beyond. Our district stands with the family and will do anything and everything we can to support them in this time of indescribable loss. -- Jim Hull, Susquehanna Valley Spokesman

The district said members of its Crisis Response Team, which includes grief counselors and social workers, are standing by to help students, faculty and staff.

"Our primary thoughts are with the family and with Connor’s friends and classmates, teachers and staff who've been part of his all-too-short life.”

Doig said at this point he couldn't comment on any memorial or funeral services being held for Brown.

A Meal Train account has been set up for community members to help provide meals to the Brown family.
