BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -

The Binghamton University Speech and Debate Team hosted a debate on the United States Immigration Policy.

The Sunday night event was part of the "You Defend It Debate Series," which is a series of debates scheduled throughout the semester that feature high-profile public figures discussing important national and state topics.

Tonight's debaters included:

  • Ira Mehlman, Media Director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform
  • Craig Nichols, a partner at Nichols Law Offices

We thought it was the perfect time to bring in experts to talk to the students about what it means to be pro-immigration or anti-immigration," said Joe Leeson-Schattz, BU Director of Debates.

The debate focused on the consequences of either increasing or limiting immigration by the Federal Government.

The next debate will be held in April and will focus on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
