Scott Derek

Scott is the Weekend Meteorologist at Fox 40. He was bitten by the weather bug at the age of 8 when a severe thunderstorm hit The Jersey Shore on Memorial Day weekend. There wasn't much damage except for a few downed twigs, but there was some hail which fascinated him. His first broadcasting experience came in middle school as there was a weather club and Scott would provide the forecast during the morning announcements!

Fast-forward ten years, he earned a Bachelor's degree in meteorology from Kean University; Scott previously worked as chief meteorologist at Merlin Media's FM News 101.9 in New York City and IQ 106.9 in Philadelphia; he covered a whole array of weather from severe thunderstorms, flooding, powerful Nor'Easters, and also Hurricanes Irene and Sandy. At the same time he completed his Master's degree in applied meteorology from Mississippi State University.

In his spare time Scott enjoys cycling, working on cars, storm chasing, and watching sports; he grew up halfway between New York and Philadelphia so he roots for the Eagles during football season but the New York Mets during baseball season.
