Binghamton Police arrested 22 year old Jedediah E. Hotchkiss of Binghamton for burglary and stealing from a vehicle. Hotchkiss was arraigned in City Court this morning on one count of Burglary in the Second Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree. The arrest stems from two separate incidents. First incident is the burglary of an Oak Street residence and the second is the stealing of property from a vehicle on Chapin Street. Both incidents were reported on November 30th to Binghamton Police.
Hotchkiss is suspected of entering an Oak Street residence, stealing property and then stealing the owner’s vehicle. The vehicle has since been recovered and returned to the owner. Hotchkiss was also connected to stealing property from a vehicle parked on Chapin Street. Hotchkiss was remanded to the custody of the Broome County Jail.
Binghamton Police would like to remind city residents to lock their vehicles and not to leave valuable items visible from the exterior. In both of the aforementioned incidents, the vehicles were left unlocked allowing the suspect to have easy access.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information on Hotchkiss activities is being encouraged to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau at (607) 772-7080. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
