Police say an 11-year-old boy suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot in a Johnson City residence Tuesday night.

On Wednesday morning, JC Police Chief Brent Dodge told Fox 40 authorities received a report that a boy had been shot at a North Broad St. residence around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Dodge said police had identified a suspect, but said he fled the scene.  Authorities were actively searching for the suspect.  Dodge did not release the name or the age of the suspect, but said he is old enough to be charged as an adult.

The police chief said the suspect and victim were known to each other and known to hang out together. Dodge said the shooting was not a random act.

"It was someone that the victims had invited into their home openly, but rest assured that we will apprehend this subject and we will make sure that he's brought to justice," said Chief Dodge.

Dodge said the victim was taken to the hospital and had been transported out of the area for treatment.
