DSGO Concert Series presents unique challenges

Posted: Updated:

The Dick's Sporting Goods Open is about more than just golf.  There's a lot of charity work involved, and of course the Friday Night Concert on the Green.  Florida Georgia Line headlined this year's concert series and once again packed the 18th green to the sound of country music.

In the past, Eddie Money, Hootie and the Blowfish, Huey Lewis and the News, Rob Thomas, Maroon 5, Train, Tim McGraw, Zac Brown Band, and Lady Antebellum have all graced En-Joie's stage for the Dick's Open.  But booking such big acts presents a few unique obstacles.

"Our biggest challenge is, not only budgetary, but we aren't an arena that can say 'hey we want Maroon 5 to play our arena some time during the summer.'  Instead we have too look at it as, we have one day, we have Friday, August 18th next year.  We need to find an act that is routed right, costs the right amount of money, and is in the right genre of music that we can actually go and talk about coming here.  So it has some challenges, but at the end of the day our community will enjoy the act we end up booking," says John Karedes, Tournament Director.

Planning has already begun on the 2017 Dick's Sporting Goods Open.  Karedes says no act for the concert series has been booked at this point.
