Jon Jones cited for drag racing, four other violations

Endicott native and UFC Fighter Jon "Bones" Jones is in trouble with the law again after being pulled over March 24th in Albuquerque, NM. Jones was cited for drag racing, exhibition driving, weaving, failing to properly display his license, and modifying his exhaust pipe, according to Albuquerque Police.

In the police body cam footage, Jones can be heard arguing with the office claiming that he was not drag racing, and called officer a liar. In a written statement, Jones apologized for his behavior towards the officer, but remained steadfast in his defense that he was not drag racing.

"I was not drag racing nor was I speeding. I did not get a speeding ticket. I was driving within the speed limit of the 35mph zone. I feel that police used a technicality to ticket me for drag racing, for simply revving my engine and acknowledging some of my local fans. I regrettably said words to the police officer out of frustration, for which I apologize for, but I do feel this was excessive."

This incident comes less than a week after Jones settled a traffic case in court stemming from a ticket in February for driving without a license or proof of registration or insurance.

It was thought that perhaps the February incident might be a violation of his probation issued in September after a hit-and-run incident in April which ultimately led to his indefinite suspension from UFC and the stripping of his light heavyweight title. The settlement of that case provided no probation violation as long as Jones stayed out of trouble for 90 days. No word yet on how this latest incident will factor into that.

No information regarding a court date or legal proceedings has been announced

Jones is set to make his return to the octagon on April 23rd against Daniel Cormier in an attempt to reclaim his Light Heavyweight Title.

Following Jones latest run in with the law, the UFC issued the following statement:

"We are aware of the situation and are looking into the matter. We've also been in touch with Jon's team regarding the matter."

In May 2012 Jones was arrested in Binghamton on suspicion of driving under the influence. He eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DWI.

Fox 40 will have more on this story as it develops.
