Two Adults and Seven Children Lose Their Home in Early Morning Fire

By Fox 40 News Staff.
Two adults and seven children escaped a house fire early Saturday morning.

According Binghamton Assistant Fire Chief Mark Whalen, crews were called to 162 Henry St. in Binghamton at 3:33 am. He says upon their arrival, the second floor and porch were fully engulfed in flames.

Whalen says, the fire jumped to a structure behind the home at 160 Henry Street, but the structure is used for storage and was empty at the time.

Eight occupants in the home were able to evacuate safely. One man was taken to Wilson Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Crews evacuated the home next door for precautions. It did not catch fire but the home did lose electricity.

Whalen says 44 firefighters from Binghamton and Five Mile Point were on scene for 7 hours. The home on 162 Henry Street and the storage building at 160 Henry Street are both total losses.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
