Urban Star Boutique Moves to Downtown Binghamton

Posted:
A local non-profit store that aims to give area residents real-life work experience is now in Downtown Binghamton.

The Urban Star Vintage Boutique features new, recycled, and gently-used items.

Store officials say the move from the Westover Plaza in Johnson City to 75 Court Street in Binghamton was made to reach more people.

The shop is a job training site in partnership between the Broome County Urban League and the Department of Social Services.

"We train them on aspects of retail, administrative portions, maintenance, team work, and being positive," said Ebony Tutora, Urban Star Program Director, "So we try to touch on a well-rounded approach to get them ready for the work place, and enthusiastic about working."

Officials say since April of 2014, the program has trained more than 500 people, and more than 200 have been placed in reported employment.
