Binghamton Feb Murder Trail Set, Suspect Pleaded Not Guilty

By FOX 40 Staff.
Binghamton murder suspect, Jonathan Garcia, has pleaded not guilty to all five felony charges in the shooting death of Jamaal Moses during an arraignment Monday morning.

Garcia, 19, pleaded not guilty to second degree murder charges on February 25th. Police believe the fatal shooting was part of a drug deal gone bad, not a random act.

The trial has been set for August 8th.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of February 14th near Lake Ave. and Merrill St. in Binghamton. Moses was shot several times and died from his injuries at Wilson Hospital.

On February 17th, Garcia was arrested after he was pulled over near an exit outside Miami, Florida. Garcia has family connections in Miami, according to police. Authorities say there was no struggle in the arrest.

Garcia is currently in the Broome County Jail without bail.

If convicted, Garcia faces a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison.
