Group Aims To Bring NYC Children To Southern Tier For The Summer
By Faith Jessie. A local group held a sign up on Sunday, for Southern Tier families who might be interested in hosting a New York City child for the summer.
Volunteers from the Fresh Air Fund's Friendly Town Program are helping to place city children with families in the Southern Tier to give them a chance to experience things they may not be able to have the opportunity to experience in the city.
"It's getting them out of there and showing them another side of life, and fresh air, and animals, and grass. Some of them don't even see the stars because of all the buildings," said Joan Hanrahan, Volunteer with the Fresh Air Fund.
Over 4,000 children participate in the program every summer.
