SUNY Broome hosted the 14th annual Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair on Saturday.
Nearly 100 local middle and high school students participated in two workshops held by Faculty from SUNY Broome's Division of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Although students competed for more than $2,000 in awards and prizes, one SUNY Broome professor says the real award was the opportunity to learn from professionals.
"If they can talk to professionals about their interests, the professionals can give them ideas and things that are going on in our community, hopefully we will have some future scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians right here in our community," said Phyllis O'Donnell, Professor at SUNY Broome.
Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, and IBM were among the event sponsors.
