Endicott Police Chief to Retire

By Fox 40 Staff.
There will be a change in leadership in the Endicott Police Department. Chief Michael Cox is retiring, effective May 24th.

Cox joined the Endicott Police Department in April 30, 1989. He was a member of the SWAT team. He became a Sergeant in 2002 and promoted to Lieutenant in 2003. Cox was named Captain in June, 2004, shortly before being elevated to Chief in August, 2004.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Endicott Police Department and will miss my co-workers," said Cox.

Endicott Mayor John Bertoni says the Village won't rush into a hire but he hopes to have a replacement in place by the time Cox leaves. When asked if he would look at candidates inside or outside of the department, Bertoni answered he would, "look for the best possible candidate."

Bertoni will make a selection which then has to be approved by the Village Board.
