CPR Skills Help Local Teen Save A Life

A Chenango Valley teen is being hailed as a hero, thanks to the life-saving skills she learned as a member of BOCES Health Science Program.

Jessica Fitzgerald, 17, was working at the New York Pizzeria Sunday when her co-worker came in from a delivery and collapsed on the floor. The man hit his head, and lost his breath.

That's when Jessica jumped into action, putting to use the CPR skills she's learned in school.

"I just wanted to put my training into work and I wanted to make sure he had the best chance to live," Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald gave her co-worker CPR within 70 to 80 seconds of him collapsing.
The ambulance arrived and he was taken to the hospital where he'scurrently recovering.

The man's family says he had a massive heart attack and they say if it wasn't for Fitzgerald, their father wouldn't be alive today.
