Tigers and Wildcats prepare to square off in Class A Finals

Friday night the Johnson City Wildcats and Union-Endicott Tigers go head-to-head at the Arena for the Section IV Class A Title. The Tigers are the two-time defending Section champs and are looking to make it three in a row. But the Wildcats come in looking for vengeance.

The two teams met last year in the Section IV semis and the Tigers were victorious. It's been a long wait for the Wildcats all year to get their revenge.

"It's pretty much the same team as last year so we definitely have a feeling in our stomach to knock them off. Payback," said Pat Garey, JC junior guard.

"We know most of those guys over there, we're kind of close," said Dom Nadz, JC senior guard. "Last year they got us. We've just been working hard for this moment. It'll be a great opportunity for us."

"It's a very hard working group of guys. I think they're prepared to go play the best game that they've played all year," said JC Head Coach Bill Spalik. "If that means that we get a chance to beat U-E that's great. If not, we know that we didn't leave anything on the table. So we're ready to go and give them our best shot."

Meanwhile, the Tigers are well rested having last played a full week ago (compared to JC playing on Tuesday), and are confident heading into the Section Finals.

"Being a part of the first two puts some pressure on me, but I feel like, with this team, we're ready to get the win here," said Thomas Pasquale, U-E senior guard.

"Being in a Section Final is obviously a privilege and playing at this time of the year is obviously a privilege and we don't take it for granted," said Tigers Head Coach Matt Morely. "I think we're coming on at the right time. I think it's been a process this year getting used to a new head coach and I think the kids have, it took them a little while to adjust but we're playing well at the right time."

Tip-off between the Wildcats and Tigers at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena at 7:45.
