Specialty Store Works to Bring Local Agriculture to Downtown Binghamton

A specialty grocery store plans to connect Downtown Binghamton with local agriculture.

The Old Barn Hollow Farm Market & Gluten-Free Bakery is currently located on Vestal Ave. in Binghamton. It will be moving to 214 State St. in the city. Store owners say their store is a "locavore." All of its products are grown locally or made in small batches by local artisans.

"We really wanted to be downtown to give the community; the students, the professionals that live in the buildings, a greater access to locally grown foods. And again bring the agriculture that is outside of the city to the inner city," said Karen Allen, owner of the Old Barn Hollow.

Owners said there is also an online food co-op for items customers want that are not seasonal in the area.

The goal is to open the downtown store in April.

It will be looking for local sustainable farm vendors to fill space in the new location. For more information, you can visit www.oldbarnhollow.com.
