Bearcats out to prove last year was a fluke

After winning back-to-back America East Titles, the BU Bearcats baseball team stumbled last year to the tune of a 17-24-2 (6-14-1) record, failing to make the America East tournament. As a result, BU was picked to finish 5th out of the seven teams in the conference preseason poll.

While coaches and players tend to ignore those preseason polls, it is a bit of a chip on their shoulders entering the season. But rather than out to prove they deserve more respect in the preseason poll, the Bearcats are out to prove that last year was a fluke.

"It's no secret that last year we fell below that standard," said Head Coach Tim Sinicki. "We did not perform well. I don't think it was because we didn't have good enough players. I don't think it was because we didn't prepare well enough. I just think we didn't play as well as we were capable of playing, especially down the stretch which has been a trademark of this program. So I think for a lot of different reasons our guys are anxious to get back at it this year. Part of it was to erase the memory of last year. Part of it maybe is to prove some people wrong that maybe we haven't slipped a bit and we're still going to be in the mix for a conference championship come May."
