Local Phys Ed Teacher Recognized

A local phys ed teacher and Special Olympics coach is receiving a big honor.

Broome-Tioga Boces teacher Beth VanOsten has been named the New York State Special Olympics Coach of the Year.

She's been coaching Special Olympics athletes for nearly 27 years and has won many awards for her hard work and dedication.

As grateful as VanOsten is for this honor, it's not the winning she enjoys the most.

"I love it. I love doing it with the kids, I love taking them places, I love seeing their excitement when they compete and do their best," said Beth VanOsten, NYS Special Olympics Coach of the Year.

VanOsten will also be recognized during the opening ceremonies of the State Winter Games Friday evening in Poughkeepsie.
